What we do
Here at Stirbridge Farm we focus on effective and traditional methods of farming to enhance the final quality of meat and produce. Our breeds are carefully selected and reared to give that unique depth in quality we have become known for.
Why Rare Breeds are important to us
Over the years commercial farming methods have meant that certain native breeds have become less popular choice for farmers. Many of the breeds we keep have unique attributes and flavours which we choose to promote and are worth preserving.
Castlemilk Moorit
A primitive horned Scottish breed practically extinct in the 1970's producing small lively lambs. They have a fleece with little kemp highly prized by hand spinners. They produce a high quality fine grained lean meat with a distinctive slightly gamey flavour.
Llanwenog Sheep
The Llanwenog originates from west Wales where it was developed by crossing the local Welsh sheep with Shropshire and Clun sheep. It is a versatile and productive breed which frequently has twins and is economic to keep. It is calm and easy to handle and it’s good looks are an added bonus.
Cotswold Sheep
An ancient breed of large longwool sheep which are known for being good lambers and mothers. The meat has a mild flavour and aroma
Ryeland Sheep
Ryelands were the founding breed of our flock chosen because of there ease of handling and good temperament. A medium sized sheep which can be white or coloured and are renowned for producing excellent quality and great tasting meat.
